OUR MISSION
The museum’s mission is to support, encourage, and facilitate the collection, conservation, maintenance and restoration of heritage property and sites in Williams Lake and the Cariboo Chilcotin regions. As a history museum in Williams Lake, we are a centre for historical, genealogical, and anthropological research. We offer free research services to anyone with an interest in local history topics and are available by appointment for research consultations. The museum is run by a not for profit society, the Museum of the Cariboo Chilcotin Society, formerly known as the Williams Lake Museum and Historical Society. The society has operated the museum since 1985 and continues to fund-raise in support of the museum’s initiatives.

What a neat museum to discover within the Visitor Centre! I thought it was full of wonderful artifacts, and set-up in a way that was easy to read through and get a sense of what life was like for the people who helped build this region into what it is today!
This museum does a great job of sharing the rich and colourful history of ranching in the area, as well as history around settlements that came about as a result of the gold rush. These wonderful stories have to be kept alive. This museum is not ‘stale’ and covers several current matters that relate to the region.. I learnt a lot in the hour I spent there. Entrance is by donation. Please make a donation!!
Very interesting and informative and excellent curation make these exhibits well worth the stop and the time to explore.
